P2V Error Oracle Linux 6.5

I have a physical server with Oracle Linux 6.5 kernel 3.8.13 - 26.2.2.el6uek.x86_64 .

 

 

 

Upon P2V error occurs below 98% .

How to convert KVM (.img file) to Vmware compatible format (.vmx)

I tried to search , but i couldn't find any converter to convert .img to .vmx.

 

I have the image & it is not running on any environment & just want to convert it into vmware compatible , so that i can host it VM Esxi.

P2V of Physical server attached to SAN

Hello,

I need to know how should I do P2V for a physical server attached to SAN? A step by step document will be very helpful.

 

--> For Data drives larger than 950 GB, will attach as RDM,

 

--> What are the steps where Physical servers's C: is on SAN

 

--> What about Data drives less than 950 GB?

Unable to P2V Redhat 6.2 with Converter 5.1

Unable to migrate RHEL 5 to ESXi 5.5

Hello all!

 

I am trying to migrate physical machine RHEL 5 to ESXi 5.5, VMWare Converter version 5.5.1.

I am entering IP source machine, root name and password, and get error:

 

"Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine."

 

Below is last lines from vmware-converter-worker.log:

I tried to do:

Run converter as administrator - the same error

Changed version converter (5.1) - the same error

Two days before I has converted machine with Ubuntu 10 by the same converter - all OK.

 

What could be a reason of this problem?

physical drive not listed in dropdown in Workstation 8

Trying to add a SATA HDD that is connected by a USB dock attached to my laptop that is running Workstation 8.0.6.

 

Editing the vm, I choose add a physical disk, but the next screen has a dropdown that only shows physicaldisk0 and not the external disk.

 

Windows diskmanager shows the external HDD as 'disk 1' and I have removed all drive letters.

 

I tried marking the disk offline in diskpart, and it did not help - the drive still does not show up in the dropdown box.

 

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

 

The drive is readable and writeable by the Win 7 host if marked online and assigned a drive letter to make it available, so I know the drive is healthy.

v2v 2012 machine cannot log in

I keep trying to v2v a 2012 machine currently a hyperv vm to vmware but even when i installed the converter locally and tried to connect to the virtual center, it keeps giving me Cannot complete login sue to incorrect user name or pasword

 

Tried several other admin users and same thing. The accounts are not locked out

Hi Guys,

 

very frustrating issue.  I'm currently using the latest version of vmware convertor 5.5.1 while the version of my ESXi is 5.5.0, if this helps.  I am converting a 2008 server R2 and at 98% it keeps on failing with the status "vmware converter FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible."

 

I've seen similar post where the solution is to modify boot.ini; but 2008 R2 does not have any boot.ini file.  Any suggestions is highly appreciated.  Attached is the log file.

Hi,

 

i try to P2V a windows 8 Pro 32 bits with VMwARE Vcenter Converter Standalone 5.5.1.

 

I applied each required described in the KB2059581 but noway,

 

every time the same message.

 

I saw that in customise setup we need to affect http port.

 

On my physical machine iis is running and use the port 80

 

is it a problem to obtain hardware information ? do i need to change the port of VMwARE Vcenter Converter Standalone or iis ?


the hard disk is a SSD 64 Go on Dell Latitude Windows 8 Pro 32 bits

Unable to install converter - Installation package could not be opened

When running the VMware-converter-en-5.5.0-1362012.exe this error message interrupts the "Preparing to install..." window.

 

"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

 

I am unable to progress any further with the install. Any help will be much appreciated.

sv2i Konvertierung mit Systempartition

Hallo,

 

ich möchte gerne aus dem Backupfile von Symantec System Recovery 2013 (sv2i) eine Konvertierung durchführen.

 

Es handelt sich um ein Windows 7 64 Bit Backup, mit 2 Partions. 1. System Partition (100MB) und 2. Das c-Drive (250 GB).

 

Symantec System Recovery 2013 bietet ja eine eigene Option zum konvertieren oder nimmt man besser den VMWare-Converter und konvertiert hier die sv2i Datei ?

Hi,

 

i want to convert a backup file from Symantec System Recovery 2013 (sv2i) file.

 

the machine is a Windows 7 64 bit, with 2 partions;  1. (100 MB) System Partion;  2. (250 GB) C-Drive.

 

In System Recovery 2013 is a option to convert sv2i to vmware vmdk, so should i use this Option from System Recovery 2013 or should i convert the sv2i with vmware converter?

Hi,


I'm attempting to virtualize a SQL database server that has an direct attached array connected to it.  Some of the partitions are stored on this array.  It gets through all of them, but one.  Immediately when it starts to convert that drive, it fails with the error "An error occurred during the conversion: 'Block level cloning does not support shrinking volumes'.  I can't seem to find anything online about the error so I'm wondering if any of you have seen it?

 

I've set all of the drives to be Thin Provisioned and I leave it at the original size.  The only thing I have done outside of the default is to remove one of the drives from the conversion and set them to thin provision. 

 

Not sure what info I would need to proved here, so please let me know if you have any questions.

Converting Linux Machine with Logical Volumes

We are in the midst of converting our legacy server farm across to the VM platform.

 

We have a mix of Windows and Linux servers.

 

When I was converting one of our Linux servers it appeared that it was missing some of the logical volumes.

  • This particular server is SUSE Enterprise 10
  • We are using version 5.5.1 converter
  • Also it appeared to only pull across one of the logical volumes.
  • When I tried to convert it again and check to see if the converter could see these other volumes, only one logical volume was recognized.

 

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Problem converting a physical Ubuntu 14.04 server

Hi there. Anyone else tried to convert a physical Ubuntu 14.04 installation? For me it fails at grub-version check it seems like.

 

I also tried it on 12.04 and it works fine. The differense is this:

12.04:

$ grub-install -v

grub-install (GRUB) 1.99-21ubuntu3.14

 

14.04:

$ grub-install -V

grub-install (GRUB) 2.02~beta2-9

 

In 14.04 I have to use capital V for version check. Is it possible to change this in the Converter? I'm using Converter version 5.5

 

The result seems to be that the converter installs the wrong version of grub, or not at all.

Getting errors Reached Maximum Volume Snapshots trying to convert XP system hotcloning to VMDK with Converter latest ver

Hi I keep getting this error re  Reached Max Volume Snapshots trying to convert XP system hotcloning to VMDK with Converter latest ver 5.5.1. Error causes conversion of physical machine to fail at 1%.

I am trying to convert a drive with a dual boot XP -2 Xps on it  to a VMDK for VMware Player 6- also has a C partition with original W98SE that no longer use.  The C partition has the boot ini boot loader for the dual Xps which are on J and I partitions.  Other partitions on drive cloning together (need them together as Xps access these drives at boot are: D Programs, E: Docs and Shared (has user logon profiles for XP) and F, G and H (contains VirtualPC Virtual HD of 98SE) partitions.

 

I am running a chkdsk /f /r on all partitions and have deleted system volume snapshots (from system restore) and turned off system restore in case that is issue.  I also tried turning off firewall as told in manual and stopping several 3rd party services from running.  Not using any extra options when cloning.  Target is a 1 Tb free space (more than partitions/drive copying) on an external USB "3" drive.

 

I tried also with just J and not I Partition selected with others and same error so dual systems prob not issue -though not sure if both will be bootable in Vm together via boot ini choosing as have at moment on physical machine.  Anyone know if this will work still as dual boot on VM or should I be cloning each with C separately as don't want J or I to become C as their drive letters are associated with many years of program installs don't want to redo.  Not sure if can attach these at same time to be able to boot either if on separate drives in VM and still have access to all other partitions from both Xps - anyone know how to do this best?

 

Also re my error -mainly this is what need fixed so can get this done -or will it be ok to do this converting coldclone via Windows 8.1 I have on a separate drive -however C drive I need shows up as V as W81 is C on host.  Will this allow still a dual boot VM or at least one of Xps to be bootable from V drive -maybe if I move it up to C 1st partition position when copying to VMDK?  Please keep in mind I do not have Workstation and only will use VmWare Player 6 or try in VirtualBox or Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 Pro  host  if VmWare Player fails.

P2V conversion of HP 8300 Elite Small Form Factor Desktop BSOD Error 0x0000007B 0xFFFFF880009A97E8 please Help!

Dear Team,

 

We are trying to convert HP 8300 Elite Small Form Factor Desktop with Windows 7 64 bit in AHCI Mode (default) to VM

Using Vmware converter 5.5.1 (SCSI LSI Logic SAS, the conversion worked well, but on booting the VM blue screen came up

Error 0x0000007B 0xFFFFF880009A97E8

 

 

we tried enabling LSI_SAS via loading hive in registry still the same error

 

 

We tried IDE during conversion then also same error

Unable to convert SLES 11 from physical to virtual

Hi!

SLES 11 on VMware Virtual Platform. Trying to convert it to ESX 5.1. First tried to use Converter 5.5, but … got error “FAILED: A general system error occurred: Network error.
Host Infutik1.ut.ee key can't be retrieved. (return code 2)”. On SLES nothing added to hosts.allow nor hosts.deny. SSHD is running I’m able to use NX for remote connection to this server. Well, thought maybe something with RSA key and Converter 5.5 (find out via Google). Tried Converter 4.3, but … “unable to clone the volume mounted on ‘/boot’”. Here I am! Any ideas? Probably I’m doing something wrong.
